Coconut Charcoal Packaging Options: Bulk, Master Box and Inner Box
How wholesale coconut charcoal is packed — bulk, master box and printed inner boxes — what each adds to the cost, and which to choose for distribution vs private label.
Packaging is rarely the first thing a buyer thinks about, but it shapes both your landed cost and how the product sells on the shelf. The charcoal inside can be identical while the packaging decision changes the price per tonne and your route to market. Here are the options.
Bulk packaging
Bulk is the lowest-cost option: charcoal packed without retail presentation, ready for repacking or industrial use. It removes the cost of printed boxes entirely and lets you fit the maximum product into a container. Bulk suits buyers who repack under their own line or sell onward to processors, where presentation does not matter.
Master Box
The Master Box is a large brown box, typically holding 10, 12, 15 or 20 kg of cubes. It is built for transport and warehousing rather than the shelf — sturdy, stackable and efficient inside the container. For distributors moving volume to wholesale or B2B customers, the Master Box is usually the right balance of protection and cost.
Inner Box
The Inner Box is the full-colour, laminated retail box that the end customer actually picks up, generally sized from 250 g up to 2 kg. Inner Boxes sit inside Master Boxes for transport. This is the format that carries your brand, so it is the natural choice for retail and private label.
Print options
Printing scales with how much branding you want. Options run from black and white, to 3-colour, to full-colour on selected sides, up to full-colour on the whole box. More colour and more printed surface means stronger shelf presence — and higher cost and longer lead time.
What it costs
Packaging adds up to about USD 200/tonne over the base product, with the Inner Box accounting for roughly +USD 100/tonne of that. Printing also affects the schedule: while a 20ft container takes about 10 days to produce, printed packaging adds 2–3 weeks of lead time. Plan order timing around the print stage, not just production.
How to choose by channel
Match the packaging to where the charcoal is sold. For distribution and onward wholesale, bulk or Master Box keeps cost down and presentation minimal — your customers handle the retail layer. For retail shelves and private label, the printed Inner Box is essential: it carries your brand, justifies the added cost, and is what the end buyer responds to. Many buyers mix both, shipping bulk or Master Box for trade volume and printed Inner Boxes for their branded line.
