Where the cubes are made

Our own ISO 9001:2015 factory in Tangerang, Banten — about 40 km from the port of Jakarta. Coconut shells in, lab-tested 1.8–2% ash cubes out. Below: a short tour of the production line plus our manufacturing video.

How the cubes are made

IZZY COCO coconut charcoal is made at the company's own ISO 9001:2015 factory in Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia, about 40 km from the port of Jakarta, with a capacity of about 300 tonnes per month across two production units. Coconut shells are carbonised in kilns, the char is ground to powder, bound with a small amount of natural tapioca starch (no petroleum accelerants), pressed and cut into cubes — the 25×25×25 mm cube is the most common wholesale size — then dried in tunnels until moisture is about 5% before packing. Each batch is tested by an independent laboratory (Beckjorindo or Carsurin) and ships with a Certificate of Analysis: ash 1.8–2.0%, fixed carbon about 80%, volatile matter about 15%, ignition about 9 minutes, drop test 0/10. Cubes are packed in 1 kg inner boxes inside 10–20 kg master boxes; a 20-ft container holds about 19 tonnes and takes 10 days to produce.

Video tour

The video tour follows the production line from raw material to a loaded container. Coconut shells are carbonised in kilns, and the resulting char is crushed and ground to a fine powder. The powder is mixed with a small amount of natural tapioca starch as the only binder, pressed into a continuous bar and cut into cubes — 22, 25, 26 or 27 mm depending on the order. The wet cubes travel through drying tunnels until moisture is about 5%, the level needed for a clean 120-minute burn. Samples from each batch go to an independent laboratory (Beckjorindo or Carsurin) for ash, fixed carbon, moisture and drop test, then the cubes are packed into 1 kg inner boxes and 10–20 kg master boxes, palletised and loaded — about 19 tonnes per 20-ft container.
